First time here. Staff very friendly. Just had basic sushi. Volcano roll very tasty. Would love more crab meat on top and for price to be $2 less. Soup was good. Charged for tea? Will return during early specials and try those out. On a side note, it would be great if they washed down the walls that are beside the dining tables. Where I was seated they were very dirty.

The service at this location is amazing. My family were the only customers in the restaurant during the early bird time. We got to sit by ourselves for the hibachi at a great under $14 price. The girl who was the hostess and took our order was very sweet and attentive. The food was classic hibachi. We did get so many noodles that we had an entire to go box full when we left.

Great Hibachi! My girls and I were starving after driving up to Casselberry for appointments and don't know the area. We took a chance on this place and were not disappointed! We got there around 4:00 p.m. and were pleasantly surprised that they have a "happy hour" hibachi menu! Two of us had steak and shrimp, and one had chicken and shrimp, and we all had soda. I don't want to post my bill in case they change their prices, but it was a steal for hibachi! Another truly pleasant surprise was hibachi noodles, which I have never heard of and only tried because our server said they were amazing. I am not a huge rice or pasta person, but I did justice to the hibachi noodles! Who knew?! Everything was very well prepared from the soup and salad to the steak and shrimp, and they didn't skimp on portion sizes due to happy hour prices. I live in Lake Nona and would gladly drive up just to eat here again! It was that good!!

Ordered food for delivery today and was so disappointed. It took over an hour and a half for the food to get to me, I live 1.2 miles from the restaurant. After an hour and 5 minutes of waiting a woman called me to tell me they were out of edamame. First of all I was shocked it took them over an hour to figure that out and to top it off she was very short and rude on the phone. The shrimp tempura sushi was below par. I will not be ordering from here again.

I remember when I found out Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight. What an awful casting choice I thought. Then of course I saw the movie and I was shocked at how amazing he was. But what is more shocking are all the good reviews for this excuse of an eatery. When I arrived there were only two other tables with customers yet the service was slower than John Candy in the forty yard dash. Not only was the service slow but we ordered diet cokes that never appeared and a nearby table had to ask for a manager because they didn't receive the correct order. I ordered the udon noodles which are traditionally served in a bowl with broth. The menu also showed their udon this way too yet when I ordered it there was no bowl or broth. Just noodles on a plate. Bleck. Our salads were also swimming with ginger dressing and the chicken teriyaki was dryer than Mitch Hedburg's sense of humor. I would rather watch a Robert Pattinson movie marathon than return to this establishment. All these four and five star reviews? Really?

We've tried a few hibachi grills from big chains to locally owned restaurants and we wanted to try a new hibachi grill. For us, the taste was above that of Kobe's, and right on par with smaller chains elsewhere. The price was the same as Kobe's, unfortunately. We're a family of 4 & spent almost $100 after tipping 20%. Overall, we would return, but we'll hold off on the appetizer & sushi. And maybe make the kids share a dish. Lastly, the staff was awesome, the place was clean, & we loved the taste!

After reading all these positive reviews, I decided to try out their sushi. I tried their rainbow roll which wasn't much better than what you find in a grocery store or buffet restaurant. The serving was very small. The ginger salad was very small, and the dressing didn't taste like what I was used to at other sushi restaurant. I couldn't even eat it. If you are going here for sushi, I cannot recommend this place.

Not too sure why this place has so many positive reviews, but if you are a big fan of sushi and have a certain expectation to be met, you may want to consider going where you know it will be to your liking. The sushi was ... o.k. and the price was somewhat high. The environment was not great either. I wish we would have made the drive to where we normally like to go, but we figured it would be nice to go somewhere close to home.....AHHH Wishful thinking, it GET us every time!!

I've been coming to this shopping center for years and never knew this hibachi/sushi place was here. Haven't tried the hibachi yet, but sushi was pretty good. Many options available. White rice only, was hoping for brown rice like some other places have. Waitress mentioned they my consider bring brown and purple rice back, as there are more requests for it recently.

This is my go to place for Hibachi. I drive from downtown to go out here and enjoy a nice Hibachi dinner or lunch. I just had the hibachi lunch, the servings were perfect and the price was 12 dollars or less! Good value and excellent ambiance. Will go again soon!

Been awhile since I've been here, just thought of writing a review randomly. I came here once with my financial team for lunch and had the hibachi. From what I can remember the hibachi was pretty good. Only thing that was funny was our cook. He was a white dude who put on a "Chinese" accent when he spoke to us. He also told us a story about how he was in China teaching martial arts and he had just come back to the states to cook at the restaurant. He even tried speaking some Mandarin with me... our party really didn't know what to think of this... I didn't know whether to believe him or not. Anyways, the food was good and I even had some yellowtail sashimi which was very fresh and delicious. This was a couple years ago, so I'm not sure if quality has changed.

Ok, I'm just going to lay it out folks! I'm sure there will be gasps of horror, BUT this place is seriously better than Kobe's!! Ok, I said it! We have lived near here for 2 yrs and keep saying that we want to try this place and just never have. My son and I decided to go last night and boy what a very pleasant surprise! It's a small but very intimate and inviting restaurant. We sat down at the Hibachi Grill, it was just us. We ordered 2 small sushi rolls, an Asparagus and an Avocado Roll, both were delicious! We ordered the Hibachi Dinner special, only $15.99 and you can choose 2 items of chicken, steak or shrimp. We both ordered steak and shrimp. Guy came out to cook our food and did a little show for us! Austin loved it and the cook was super cool! They brought us the Onion Soup and Salad, which were both very tasty! The amount of food you get is amazing! You get the fried rice, noodles, vegetables and the meat. I think we each got 7 shrimp with a nice size cut of steak. The shrimp were huge!! We were in and out of there in an hour, no long wait and just a fabulous experience! We will definitely be back to try other items. Oh and if you go from 3:30 to 5:30, the dinner special is $12.95. Great price for the amount of food you get! A definite MUST check out!

A friend of mine took me here one afternoon, after raving about the lunch special and the rolls. I am not a huge sushi fan, but I always love to try new foods. I have had plenty of sushi in my day, it's just not something I crave. From my experience it was really nice. The atmosphere is relaxing and casual, and the service was on point with any good establishment. I had a salmon teriyaki box w/ a cup of miso (I didn't feel like picking rolls, I am very indecisive) while the others had many different rolls. My salmon was a generous portion for a lunch menu, and it wasn't overcooked. I had a sampling of all the rolls my friends ordered, and they all tasted fresh and balanced. Nothing too over powering, but had the fresh ocean taste. I have frequented it ever since once in a while. Make sure you go for lunch, it is A LOT cheaper. There are many better sushi joints in Orlando, but this is a decent joint if you are in the red bug area/Full Sail area. If I have a bad experience here, I will surely update this post.

My husband and I come here consistently once a week for Hibatchi Lunch. The food is fresh, plentiful and reasonably priced. I prefer Hokkaido over Kobe as they are willing to reduce the amount of salt used and customize some options for us where Kobe charges for these types of items! Hokkaido is clean and VERY good!!!! Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed getting sushi here. I came during 'sushi happy hour' and ordered two rolls- the spicy tuna (no mayo, they were happy to make it) and regular tuna. They were only 3 dollars per roll! I got 12 pieces of delicious sushi for 6 bucks. It was a great dinner. The quality of the sushi was good and the environment is nice, pretty typical of a Japanese restaurant. The price is so good that I can't wait to go back.

Hokkaido is a surprisingly good, well-priced hibachi/sushi restaurant! They have a $15.95 Hibachi special where you can choose 2 combinations of meats (Steak, shrimp, chicken) and it comes with Onion Soup, Fried Rice, and 2 grilled shrimps. I opted for the chicken and scallops because I'm just crazy about hibachi scallops. My option was about $20.95 and came with a salad additionally. HOWEVER, if you get the $15.95 deal you do get noodles which I didn't get. Our Hibachi chef also did a pretty good job! Don't expect any crazy hibachi tricks you'd expect at a higher end Hibachi spot in NYC or LA (And NO, I don't mean Kobe's). Additional to the Hibachi dinner, I ordered the Tuna Kobachi appetizer from the sushi bar. This is basically Tuna chopped in cubes with a spicy sauce and sesame seeds over thinly shaved cucumber. It's served to you in a wide 'wine' glass. This is a really good appetizer to share with friends. We also ordered the moonstone raspberry sake. It's a pretty good sake to have chilled. Once it gets warm, it's a wrap. Maybe you can pour some in a sake container and have the waitress chill it for you. Can't go wrong with the hot sake either. Overall: great place, friendly staff, and very intimate layout with a separated sushi bar. I hear the lunch specials are good too.

I never thought I liked teppanyaki/hibachi. I've done Kobe quite a bit and never really understood the hype. Well, here I was pleasantly surprised at how much better theirs was... even the beloved white sauce! The negative reviews seem to trend toward the sushi or non-hibachi food, so don't let those distract you if you're looking for some good hibachi.

This place is awesome. I was going to Kobe for so long and paying a lot for it. I tried this place because my aunt wanted to. The portions are really great. the price is even more good. I'm not a fan of the salad what so ever though. I think the dressing was awful. I've had the sushi once and it was really good, average.. tasted like most others. The service is really good and the place is not as busy as kobe which is really nice. They do the same old jokes as everyone else, but I don't go here to laugh, the food is what i'm here for and I love watching them cook it.

I'm lucky in that I got what I think was a pretty well-rounded experience at Hokkaido. We were a group of six sitting at a hibachi table, but half of us ordered sushi while the other half ordered hibachi. == Sushi == The first thing I tried was a bit of my friend's tuna kobachi appetizer. This was great -- a different take on the tuna kobachi that I'm accustomed to, it was tuna and super thin sliced cucumber tossed in a sauce that was sweet with a little heat to it and sprinkled with black and white sesame, served in a large martini glass. Very nice. For my meal, I ordered [see photo, left to right] the Snow White Roll, the Red Bug Roll, and hamachi nigiri. The nigiri was was very good, without the oily aftertaste that you can get with hamachi at some places. The rolls were a bit smaller than I had hoped, but otherwise were pretty good. The fish was fresh and everything tasted fine, they were just rolled a bit too small for me. I'd put the rolls in the high 3-star range and the nigiri and tuna kobachi at 4 stars. == Hibachi == The hibachi was excellent, and luckily I got the chance to sample my fiancée's dish. I'd say that the food is every bit as good as Kobe, but at a lower price. She ordered a special with the steak, which also came with the usual fried rice, noodles, vegetables, and a couple of shrimp. It also included a side salad. The total for the special was $15.95. Another important note: the chef's "performance" at the table is much better (in my opinion) than what they do at Kobe. Kobe seems to have everything scripted, so your experience is almost exactly the same regardless of which chef you get (see my review yelp.com/biz/kobe-japane… ). But here, it seems more fluid, and those in our group that had been here before commented on how this chef was doing things differently than the last chef they had.

Happy hour is pretty cheap and the sushi is delicious. Got the dr. Dr. Dragon roll and one of the traditional ones and it was really good. Plan on coming back again.

Love Hokkaido. It is conveniently located to my house so that makes up much of my rating. The food is fantastic and very fresh since they cook it right in front of you. The only thing I didn't like is the price. Not too much higher than many of these types of places but $120 for a family of 5 with one kid seems a bit high, especially when my wife and I only had a regular beverage. But it is mostly worth the price since the kids enjoy the atmosphere and the chefs are usually playful with the children in attendance. Highly recommended.

If you're not one to try sushi, have no fear! When you first enter the building, you'll find more hibachi (or teppanyaki) tables than normal tables so you'll be able to find something worth having. I'm a HUGE sushi lover and found the roll selection to be limited, but the group of girls I dined with seemed to love it. As far as drinks are concerned, there is a happy hour from 5-6 and included in it are several sake choices and wine selections (and maybe beer? No one ordered beer so I'm not sure). The food seemed fresh and the staff seemed personable, so I'd probably visit again.

Whether you want to come for sushi or you want to try the hibachi, this place just can't do wrong. I've been going to this place since it first opened, and up until I moved to California I was getting dinner from here at least once a week. My favourite roll from them is the sunrise roll, a deep-fried something that is so good I don't even remember or care what's in it. Their rainbow roll is delicious, and Hokkaido is actually the only place I'll order a rainbow roll from. Their Philly roll is a big winner too. All of their rolls are massive and you definitely get bang for your buck. The first time I went here I couldn't believe how big my serving was. They have great appetizers like the gyoza -- I can't resist ordering those, they're a definite must try. Their miso soup is pretty good and you get a nice, big serving. Their ginger salad is pretty tasty too. The hibachi is amazing, and I don't think I can go anywhere else for this style of cooking anymore. Places like Kobe's and Shogun popularized this kind of cooking in the U.S., but, unfortunately, they're starting to skimp on not only quality but quantity of the food as well. The cooks do a great job, with some new tricks that aren't quite as worn out as those at other places. The servings, just like with any other meal here, are HUGE. I always come home with a big box. They have a great $15.95 dinner special as well and it's $13.95 on Mondays and Thursdays. The dinner special includes soup and salad, noodles, fried rice, vegetables, and your choice of chicken, steak, or shrimp, as well as two grilled shrimp. This place is a big win. Locally owned, great food, amazing service. You can't go wrong.

I really enjoyed this place. I recently went here for my birthday dinner with a group of 13 people. They were able to accommodate us by putting together two hibachi tables so we could all sit together. Our chef was Andy. He was fantastic! Extremely animated and funny with a good attitude. He allowed a couple of us to come behind the grill to show our skills at flipping an un-cracked egg up into the air with a spatula in attempt to try and catch it multiple times without it breaking, which was a lot of fun and added to the entertainment factor, which I haven't gotten at other places such as Kobe. He also flung fried egg at everyone for us to catch it in our mouths, and if we were successful, we were rewarded with a mouth full of saki, or in place of the saki....a squirt of water from a "peeing boy" squirt bottle, lol. "Saki or pee pee?" he would ask, haha. The food was delicious. Soup, salad, vegetables, fried rice, noodles, and I got chicken and shrimp, which were both fantastic. They also have great specials. They all came out and sang happy birthday to me and they provided me with an ice cream sundae with a candle to blow out, which was nice. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a fun time, whether it be for a small group of people or a large group. Very fun and delicious!

I really do enjoy a good 'hibachi' / teppanyaki place and this little gem is quite the delicious find. Located in a strip mall (like, strangely, all great non chain food seems to be in Florida) the location is small and intimate. There are only I think 6 tables, so if you came on a weekend, I imagine the wait may be a bit, but I am to sure. We were seated right away on a Thursday. The food here was delicious - the filet mignon was tasty and well seasoned. The fried rice was good but not the best I have had. Our age dashi tofu appetizer was one of the best I have had! I enjoyed a nice warm sake with my meal which always probably tilts my opinion a bit. My meal came with rice and noodles - rice was definitely better if you have to choose. Service was good. The waitress and cook were both nice and friendly. A good experience that I would definitely recommend.

First off I'll say the food is decent. But the service is not. The manager Amy is rude and combative. The last three times we ate there we had problems. Now we'll never go back. We dined in 3 times ago and they got our order wrong and it wasn't a big deal, they just cooked us the right order. The second time we ate there we picked up food. Both our orders were wrong and I didn't realized until I got home. I called them up and they refused to switch it out that night because they were so busy. I spoke to the manager Amy and she said it would take at least 45 minutes. Unacceptable since it was their error. I drove there and had to wait awhile for my food. Unreal. Now today my wife wanted to go there again but I didn't after the last two times. She ordered pick up so we could eat at home. They wound up putting egg and mushroom in her rice when she asked for it not to be in there. Granted she should have checked her food while she was there but she didnt. When she got home she noticed it was wrong. I called. I spoke with Amy again and she said my wife did not say no mushroom no egg. She can't eat egg so she most certainly did say that. Amy literally said, "There is nothing I can do about it - it's your fault. If she would have said no egg I wouldn't have put egg in it. It's your fault." Wow! Telling me "It's your fault" twice. How about that for service. Three strikes and you're out. We'll never go there again.

I have been here many times and have always had a great experience. Whether you're in the mood for hibachi or sushi, it doesn't matter. Both are amazing. I always order the crazy tuna roll and it is incredible. And the hibachi special can't be beat. In my opinion, the food quality is better than Kobe's and for a much lower price. Great restaurant. I highly recommend it!

Great food! I love the hibachi here. It's a cheaper version of Kobe. They even use the same jokes.

I will never drive to a Kobe's again when you have this local gem within a mile of your home!! Everything here is great! We had the tempura as an app & hibachi as dinner. Next time we will give the sushi a shot but we were craving hibachi. Service was great! Reasonable prices! Dinner specials nightly.

A newly discovered little hole in the wall, a couple of doors away from Stonewood Grill off Redbug and Tuscawilla. My husband loves the steak as they always cook it rare and there are no send-backs. I prefer the avocado salad with cucumbers, vinegar dressing and sprinkled with black and white sesame seeds. It's always very fresh and never soggy or brown. I think they make it to order. The house salad comes drenched with ginger dressing, which is tasty but, enough already! The dumplings, both fried and steamed, are very good, as well as the vegetable tempura. I often make a meal out of appetizers and leave quite satisfied. One roll that I'll pass on next time is the asparagus roll. Waaayyyy too stringy. Good, hot green tea is a must. Also, try the special ice cream in the mango flavor. Very unusual and light. We've put this little place on our fave list but NEVER on the weekend! Mobbed and crazy and expect a wait of at least 30/45 minutes. No, no and no!!!!

A group of 5 of us ladies met up here last night for some after-work shenanigans. Have to say, the atmosphere is verrrry quiet compared to what we're used to. We do tend to be the rowdy ones at happy hour, so we felt the need to take it down a few notches. But that's ok, the food came out and hushed us up anyway :) Starting with the steamed shrimp dumplings and edamame with soy, the meal progressed nicely into the ensuing sushi sharing fest that followed. The eel and alaska rolls were very nicely made with fresh ingredients and no skimping on either the fish or the avocado. One of our group ordered the coconut lemongrass sake, which was agreed upon as possibly the best tasting sake the rest of us has had in recent memory. No room for dessert, that was plenty of food. This restaurant definitely has the kind of atmosphere a family or a couple would enjoy very much; The adults and children over at the teppan table seemed to be having a ball - yes, they do the hot cooked-on-a-hot-griddle-in-front-of-you teppan table style cooking as well.

I find Hokkaido to be an incredible value. I frequent them for the lunch special of three rolls and soup or salad for a mere $12.95 to be outstanding. The rolls are quite good (usually getting spicy tuna, yellowtail and spicy crunch) and amply sized. Frm time to time, the wife and I will go in and get the Hokkaido love boat for three and due to their generous servings, end up taking some home. The best value anywhere with very fresh fish and only $69.95. Also, when they have Toro (fatty tuna belly) available, they include that as well. YUMMERS for the whole boat! Don't be mislead that I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I have not experienced 5 star anywhere in Orlando yet and we are experienced world travelers. The one thing that dumbfounds me is why Hokkaido's isn't always packed to the gills. The staff is great and the value superb - I just don't get it. While the value is superb, at least compared to other sushi bars, I would still go if it cost more.

I know sushi joints are hit or miss but I had the greatest sushi experience ever, here! We coincidently came during happy hour & they had a huge happy hour only menu, tons to choose from! Some items like Krab stick were only $1! Most rolls were $3. I loved their selection & originality of the "recipes". Their teppan chefs were great! Although we were only there for sushi, our party loved the entertainment from the nearby teppan tables. Sorry Kobe, but these guys had you beat by a million! We also had a herd of children with us..they had a typical kids menu! Chicken & fries! & it comes with kid friendly chopsticks which not only the kids thought was the coolest thing! I've definitely never seen that at a sushi restaurant before, very impressed. The place was large & very clean. Everything was very classy. The server could've been a little more efficient but her friendliness overruled. I look forward to bringing the kids back!

We dropped in this Sunday afternoon, my notes: No wait time. Talented chef (full blown juggling). Friendly servers. Great white sauce (closest thing I've tried to the legendary Samurai in Miami). Meals around $10 include tasty fried rice. NY steak was delicious. We didn't try the sushi.

I like this place, I've only been there for the sushi happy hour ($3 Rolls), it's just the basic rolls..shrimp tempora..crunchy roll..all that stuff but it's pretty good. One of these days I'll try the habachi there and update this post, but their higher end sushi rolls look good for sure, but this is a good place for happy hour..I believe it's 3-6pm. :)
